ABOUT:
Jimmy McCaffrey (b.1991) is an abstract artist, curator and gallerist, residing and working in San Francisco's Mission District.
Jimmy's artistic language revolves around the concept of fragmentation and self-recomposition. Understanding all the disparate components of the human condition and allowing the process of painting to catch the big feelings and emotions of any given moment in time are what Jimmy seeks to experience each time he find's himself at the canvas. He seeks the truth in himself through creating monumental contemporary, abstract beasts. His work is entirely reflection of himself, presented as a kaleidoscope of elements scattered across mind, body, soul and time. Each layer in his work serves as a symbolic fragment, capturing unique moments, strong emotions, and all other intriguing experiences that can be expressed through artistic mediums- his experience at any given moment in time played out in a painting event that is both physically intense and emotionally soothing.
This fragmentation is not a disintegration but a deliberate deconstruction, an exploration of his fears and the unknown, which paves the way for a transformative restoration. Jimmy finds huge personal fulfillment in candidly exploring the complexity of his existence through the rich interplay of layers and by sharing his finding with his peers, collectors and his students.
